INGROW & Worth Valley haven't had a lot to shout about in Craven League Division One this season as they are battling for survival.

However, it is a different matter in cup competitions, and the Division One Cup semi-finalists have claimed a top-flight scalp in the league's blue-riband competition, the Northern Plant Hire Trophy.

They defeated Premier Division Cononley Sports 4-0 at Oakbank School, despite having inspirational manager Liam Marsh called away, the experienced Tom Barlow proving a more than capable deputy.

The first half was dull, with neither team making many chances until Ryan Stubbs’ corner found the ever-reliable Martin Coleman, who planted an unstoppable header past the helpless Cononley keeper.

The second half started much better for the Steampigs. With Barlow’s half-time team talk ringing in their ears, a ball over top from Jordan Marsh found Stubbs, who broke away and coolly rounded the keeper to make it two.

A brace from the impressive Jack Bilney then put Ingrow four up before Ingrow keeper Wayne Mahomet was forced into a couple of smart saves, and defender Dez Smith sliced the ball over his own bar as they booked a home tie against Grindleton, who are two places above Cononley in the table.

Meanwhile, Cross Hills, with Andrew North leading by example, stayed on top of the Premier Division after a 2-0 home win over fourth-placed Trawden Celtic, although Rolls, who won 4-1 at Cowling, and Skipton LMS remain threats.

Cononley Sports Reserves have finally won in Division One. With only a draw to their name so far, they won at the 15th attempt by 3-2 at next-to-bottom Bradley.

Man of the match Craig Ebbrell bagged a brace for the winners, Jordan Hudson also scoring, while man of the match Zac Conway and Tom Wilson replied for Bradley, who led 2-1 at half-time.

Bingley Town, depleted by injuries beforehand and during the game, finished with just eight fit players in their 3-1 home defeat by Skipton Town.

Leaders Sporting Keighley fell to only their third defeat of the season when second-placed Grassington United won 4-1 at Marley, Jinaid Taj taking the gong for the losers, while Broomhill remained third after an 8-2 victory at cellar dwellers Sutton.

The two-week lay-off did not affect the visitors, who notched their seventh straight win, the previous one being a 7-2 home win over Sutton.

Only a man-of-the-match display from Sutton keeper Dave Edwards kept the scores level for 20 minutes until Andy tanner beat the offside trap and side-footed Andy King's through ball home.

Returning midfielder Tom Hill created the second for Tanner and, five minutes into the second half, the latter again beat the offside trap to give King the chance to head home the third.

Sutton replied within two minutes but Broomhill hot back with a goal-of-the-season contender, Jake Ward beating two men before unleashing a 30-yarder that went into the top corner off the underside of the bar.

An own goal increased the tally but an underhit back pass allowed Sutton to score again but substitute Simon Harris gave Tanner the chance to complete his hat-trick and take his tally to 26 in 14 matches.

Man of the match Ward then calmly side-footed home the seventh and, on the 90-minute mark, Harris' corner was headed home by central defender David Rhodes for this fourth in four matches.

Ellis Atha inspired Oxenhope Rec to an 8-1 home win over Skipton LMS Reserves as they went fourth, overtaking FC Polonia, who went down 4-3 at home to Settle United Reserves, despite goals from man of the match Birdslaw Bak (2) and Pizemyslaw Witch.

Cross Hills Reserves had a great 2-1 win at second-placed Pendle Renegades Reserves in Division Three, with Jimmy Anson man of the match.
