Bradford u-17s 1 Keighley u-17s 5

KEIGHLEY clinched top spot in Group B in the West Riding County Minor Cup with an emphatic win over previously unbeaten Bradford.

With qualification for both sides already assured, the visitors gave themselves a big confidence boost going into Saturday’s semi-final against Huddersfield at Woodlesford (2pm).

On a very heavy pitch, full back Keann Shaw produced a man of the match display. His long ball on 15 minutes caught out the Bradford defence and saw Ben Cox waltz his way around the keeper to open the scoring.

Keighley continued to look dangerous and it was no surprise when Owen Williamson perfectly picked out the impressive Lewis Hopkinson from a rehearsed corner on 41 minutes to double the lead.

A reshuffle through injury saw Sam Fox move into the back four as keeper Matthew Fleetwood made a smart save, tipping over a free-kick to ensure a first-half clean sheet.

A couple of tactical changes saw Bradford struggle to find any rhythm at the start of the second half and the diminutive Cox broke free to put Keighley 3-0 up on 51 minutes.

The hosts hit the bar before they finally reduced the deficit on 67 minutes.

The comeback never materialised, however, as Cox fired wide after a six-man move before Keighley extended their lead.

Williamson’s strength, pace and never-give-up attitude saw him score a late brace to complete an extremely satisfying night.

Manager Charlie Wysocki said: “The performance was far better than the previous week’s against Craven and we made a strong team look very ordinary for long periods.

“Our attitude and application was first class on a difficult surface but we are well aware that we will still need to improve against a very strong Huddersfield side in the semi-finals.”

Silsden u-10s 4 Crossley u-10s 1

Crossley’s big centre forward put them in front but Silsden were soon level when Jaylan Camsey’s shot was handled in the box and Joe Armitage powered home the penalty.

Silsden found another gear in the second half and, with Sam Brockbank, Harry Whitaker, Josh Elliott and player of the match Lola Cunningham keeping Crossley at bay, the goals flowed. Lewis Gartland, Daniel Barnes and Sam Ayik put Dragons 4-1 up.

Charlie Barnes and skipper George Ellison tidied everything up in midfield in what was a fantastic team performance.

Nab Wood u-14s 0 Oakworth Wasps u-14s 7

Wasps got back to winning ways with a fine display. Tom Boddy opened the scoring before Luke Hegarty and a second from Tom Boddy made the half-time score 3-0.

Wasps dominated the second half and added four more goals from Matt Gill, Josh Rule, Charley Smith andHegarty. Nab Wood’s strike force were thwarted by man of the match Elliott Fletcher in defence.
