FORMER Airedale Hockey Club player Matthew Ramshaw impressed for England under-16s in their three-match series win over Holland.

The Bradley youngster, who now plays at Ben Rhydding, was to the fore in both boxes in the opening game.

England led at the break before the tourists scored twice to take the lead midway through the second half. Ramshaw worked hard up front and narrowly missed with a reverse-stick shot.

He made a fantastic block to deny the Dutch a third goal and broke out of defence, setting the England right winger free. Ramshaw covered the full length of the pitch but just missed deflecting the ball into the goal from the right winger's cross as Holland ended 3-1 winners.

The second game saw the visitors take a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time. Then England took the game to them, scoring two penalty corners with one assist from Ramshaw and then getting a third from free play to equalise. A tense last ten minutes saw Ramshaw set up captain Lucas Ward for the winner.

The deciding match proved to be a tactical affair, with both teams defending well. England forced a penalty corner just before half-time and converted to take the lead. The Dutch tried in vain to hit back as the home nation took the victory and the series 2-1.
