Odsal Sedbergh 16 Worth Village 46

Worth Village beat a determined Odsal side to clinch the league title with another fine team display as captain Daz McNulty produced a man of the match display.

Village got off to a good start, the versatile Sean Cole scoring from a break by James Gow. Joe Copperwaite scored the first of four kicks for a 6-0 lead.

With Joe Buckley and Rob Spencer both showing their ball skills, Worth were well on top and scored again as Copperwaite touched down after Connor Caveney and Ben Ross did the hard work.

With Sean Knapper and Jonny Crowther working hard in the forwards, Village scored again when Liam Gillard and Sean Snowden set up Joe Copperwaite to score under the posts.

Big Jake Feather went close to scoring but was held up over the line. Despite the efforts of the Odsal forwards, Worth were well on top as full back Jack Copperwaite went over after a 60-yard run to make it 24-0. Nick Hird then put Luke Whiteley in for a try in the corner, which was goaled by the returning Ricky Leatham before Odsal hit back with an interception try to make it 30-6 at half-time.

Playing up the slope, Village produced open rugby as Leatham crossed after a run from Rob Spencer and Ben Ross laid the platform. Jack Copperwaite scored in the corner after a break from Joe Buckley, converted from 45 yards by Leatham with a towering touchline kick.

After a flowing move from the backs, Jack Copperwaite completed his hat-trick to move ahead in the try-scoring list. Worth took their foot off the pedal to let in two soft tries late on but coach Gary Baker was thrilled after another well-deserved win sealed the title.

Mathematically, nearest challengers Victoria Rangers A can still draw level with Worth on points but Village would still be crowned champions on a head-to-head basis.

On Saturday, Village are away to Boothtown Terriers A in the semi-final of the Halifax ARL Joe Blackford Memorial Cup (3pm).
