Pennine League Division Six West: Worth Village 52 Cowling Harlequins 0

WORTH Village finished their home fixtures with a well-earned win against a Cowling side who gave their all.

The hosts' leading try-scorer Jack Copperwaite went over after a move from Jason Dovestone and Luke Whitley, Ricky Leatham landing the first of his eight goals.

Despite the final scoreline, Village had to work hard for their chances, man of the match Nick Hird using his explosive power to score after a break from Rob Spencer and Connor Caveney for a 12-0 lead.

Captain Daz McNulty then gave Sean Knapper the chance to go over under the posts, the experienced Liam Gillard getting another just before half-time after Jake Feather and Joe Hall had driven the ball in hard.

With Village leading 24-0 at half-time, Sean Cole went over in the second half after a flowing move involving Leatham and Dave O’Connor.

The Village pack were getting on top by now, Leatham scoring a trademark try from 40 yards out.

Jack Copperwaite then went 60 yards to go in under the posts, and the hard-working Ben Ross got the try he deserved after good work from Feather and Caveney.

Village rounded things off with the best try of the game, a length-of-the-field move giving Snowy Snowden the chance to beat the full back for a well-deserved try to make it 52-0.

A players' collection raised £250 for former Cougars player Danny Jones.

Village face Ovenden at Siddal on Sunday in the Halifax ARL's Joe Blackford Memorial Cup final (2.30pm).
