IT IS proving a tough season for both Keighley sides in the Bradford League.

Both the first and second teams are still without a league win, with the latter's tie against Pudsey Congs proving the only plus point of the Bank Holiday double header.

Only Idle, who have played a game less, sit below Richard Wear's side in Division Two following defeats to Brighouse and Bowling Old Lane.

On Saturday, Brighouse's 250-6 proved too good as visitors Keighley were all out for 174 in reply.

Sohail Hussain had an outstanding match for the hosts, following up a splendid 111no with 4-39. Muhammad Kurshid also weighed in with 62 for Brighouse, while Hammy Shahzad had the best figures for Keighley, with 2-16 off eight overs.

Richard Wear (57) and Andy Wear (34) were Keighley’s top scorers.

The Lawkholme Laners found it no easier on Monday as visitors Bowling Old Lane cruised to an eight-wicket win.

Skipper Richard Wear battled hard for his 33 but lacked support as the hosts were dismissed for 162 as Ahsan Alishan picked up 4-44. Only Rohid Ali (29) and Martin Walker (25) provided late resistance.

Ahsan Butt, who made 99 against Hartshead Moor on Saturday, followed up with an unbeaten 72 as Old Lane swept to their target. He shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 127 with Mustafa Bhatti (59no).

Keighley II ensured there would at least be some Bank Holiday cheer by claiming a tie at home to Pudsey Congs II on Saturday.

When the hosts were skittled for just 73 a defeat looked likely.

Adam Patrick (4-18), Jacques Allen (3-10) and Chris Doey (3-19) put the skids under Keighley, but George Heartfield (3-13) and James Rogers (3-24) responded as Congs were dismissed for the same score. Ashley Robinson (2-16) and Ali (2-8 off seven overs) also played their part.

However, Keighley II remained rooted to the bottom of Division One after a 100-run defeat at Lightcliffe two days later.

Skipper Michael Brooke (46) top-scored in Lightcliffe’s 172 as his opposite number Allan Birkett took 5-20 and Jason Perry 3-35. Tom Powe (3-8), Irsalan Ahmed (3-29) and Alex Kennedy (3-28) shared the wickets as Keighley were bowled out for just 72 in reply.
