Leigh Centurions Reserves 84 Keighley Cougars Reserves 12

FRESH from the high of picking up their first win of the season the previous week, Cougars were brought back to earth with an almighty crash by a rampant Leigh side.

Jake Knox got the opening score of the rout after Jake Ward came off his wing, leaving a gap to race into.

From the restart, Leigh kicked on the first tackle and Knox burst through a lethargic Keighley line to cross.

A kick and chase from the kick-off undid Cougars again, with Harry Gagen crossing in the corner for a try on his debut.

Mitch Cox was the next Leigh player to add his name to the scoresheet after breaking through an Alfie Seeley tackle.

Ross Peltier got the first of Cougars' two try consolations when, from Liam Darville’s pass, he powered his way through to dive over from close range.

However, a knock-on from the restart left Keighley defending on their own line once more and Corey Lee scored for the first of an eventual hat-trick.

Jack Hansen heaped further misery on Dean Muir’s weakened side as he raced through under the uprights despite the best efforts of the chasing Seeley.

Jamie Tracey was held up over the line but the try was awarded despite protests from Peltier and captain Ryan Patchett.

Another kick over the top undid Keighley on the hooter with Cox racing through to complete his brace.

Lee had his second of the evening after throwing a dummy and this lead to a further collapse with the hosts putting in four unanswered scores in the space of nine second-half minutes.

Cougars did manage another try, with James Morton turning through an uncompleted tackle on the ground to score his fourth of the season.

Interchange Tyler Whittaker completed the rout for the Centurions by grabbing a quick-fire brace.
