The final of the Clarkson Cup will be between Sutton A and Settle A on July 30 at a venue to be announced.

Sutton reached the showpiece after comfortably beating a lacklustre Keighley A, big wins by Kevin Mackie and David Cadwallader clinching victory with the game half-finished. ‘Jocky’ Wilson and Steve Morris reduced the arrears but it was not to be.

Settle beat Silsden BC at Rolls Royce, the day after having been mauled by the same team in a league game, with a margin of 40 points and a little luck along the way.

The Supplementary Cup final on the same day, also on July 30, will feature Gargrave A and Craven A. Gargrave were well on top against Steeton A at Colne Cricket despite a brave effort by Ian Hodgson for the losers, while Craven just edged out Silsden PF A with seven winners.

Skipton Vets put up a brave fight in their first-round match against hosts Bradford in the Hickson Trophy at Asa Briggs. Although they shared the winners, they went down by 16 points to the eventual victors.

There were some close games but a couple of poor scores sealed Skipton’s fate. The winners were John Parkin, Derek Seed, David Hemsley, David Jacques, Bill Hardwick and Mick Duke.

The vets are back in action tomorrow when they meet Castleford in the Yorkshire ABA’s event. The away team travel to the dreaded Pontefract green while the home side are at Craven which, if running, could favour the away side. Luckily, they have not played well for a couple of seasons and it should be a home win in this penultimate match.

Cross Roads bowed out in the Yorkshire Parks' Brotherton Cup as they lost to a weakened Pudsey A at West Bradford. They could only muster two winners in Richard Hargreaves and Richard Dunhill as they went down by almost 50 points. The eventual winners were Crossgates.

The team will have to improve for Saturday’s Yorkshire ABA Henry Taylor Cup quarter-final when they meet a strong Hanging Heaton team at Wayside Harrogate, starting at 2.30pm. Devon are at the same stage in the mixed-team event for the Hutchinson Cup and will have to put in a much better effort than last time when they meet Brighouse Sports at Crowghyll Park.

Skipton/Worth Valley Juniors were at the end of a big defeat in their recent match against Halifax B and failed to land a winner despite three close scores. Their next match is at home to Huddersfield C at Lund Park on July 25.

Meanwhile, the Skipton Summer Doubles were won by Graeme Perry and Ian Bernard, of Skipton, who beat Martin and Wayne Lee 15-11 at Broughton Road, while ‘Jocky’ Wilson reached the Hebden Bridge Merit final at Sowerby only to lose 21-14 to Tony Bannister of Heptonstall.

There is a low entry for the Harrison Mixed Pairs on Sunday. Draw details are available from Mick Demain.
