STEETON II reached the final of the Birtwhistle Cup thanks to a seven-wicket win at home to Beckwithshaw II.

The Harrogate side, who are top of Division Two, had already dispatched top-flight opposition but the Summerhill Lane side ensured there would not be another upset to book a place in the show-piece against Guiseley II at Horsforth Hall Park on Sunday, August 16.

Beckwithshaw were bowled out for a meagre 145 as Steeton produced a strong fielding display with nine catches, including five by wicket-keeper Oliver Gledhill. Chief wicket-takers were Josh Gill (3-38) and David Wynn (3-37).

In reply, an 88-run third-wicket partnership between Andrew Luxton (30no) and skipper Craig Walton (70 from 59 balls) laid the platform for the hosts' victory as they eased home in 24 overs.

That made up for a disappointing defeat in Division One the day before at home to Tong Park Esholt.

The visitors were bowled out for 163 in 46.3 overs as Luke Watson claimed 4-24, while Gary Boulton weighed in with 3-35.

Though not a big total, it proved enough as a weakened batting line-up were dismissed for 146, despite Boulton making 60 from 58 balls.

Harden II (169-4) enjoyed a six-wicket win over Follifoot II (167) in Division Two, while Silsden II (173) were well beaten against Old Modernians (301-6) in Division Three.
