Keighley Albion Under-13s came close to pulling off victory in the annual Guiseley nine-a-side tournament held at Yarnbury RUFC, but in the end had to settle for runners-up spot.

Wins against Guiseley Rangers, Fryston Warriors and Meltham All Blacks in the group stage had pitted them against the only other unbeaten team, Headingley Hawks, in the final.

Albion took an early lead through Ciaran Bartlett, but Hawks came back strongly to score the next three tries.

When Albion were then reduced to eight men with twenty minutes still to play, something special was needed to give them a winning chance.

They were not to be found wanting as Zac Blackburn reduced the arrears before half-time.

Hawks held on to their lead despite tries from Billy Addy and Harry Webster, but in the final minute a swift passing movement saw James McDonald finish well in the corner to take the game into extra-time.

The toss for kick-off was then to prove crucial as Hawks took full advantage to get over the line for the winning try.
