RIDDLESDEN staged the most notable match in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League First Division at the weekend – but it was also the only match in the section not to finish.

The reason it was so memorable was Amjid Hussain's 172 for Riddlesden, which contained an incredible 17 sixes and six fours.

His third century of the season propelled Riddlesden to 328 against Haworth, Aftab Khan weighing in with 52 and Ehsan Khan 42 as Phil Clayton toiled away to take 4-77 and Stephen Bell 4-92.

Haworth were also making the scoreboard rattle by replying with 199-1 off 38 overs when rain stopped play, with Jamie Rowell 113 not out, Pete Gower having been dismissed for 54.

Steve Doane made 45 and took 4-42 for Sutton but that was not enough as leaders Oakworth won by four wickets.

Craig Thornton (30) and David Snowden (24) also did their bit against Gareth Marshall (4-17) and Michael Scarborough (4-23) but Sutton were all out for 112, Joel Gallagher (40) playing the key knock in Oakworth's reply of 116-6.

Ingrow St John's were also in the runs at home to Bingley Congs, scoring 248-5 thanks to Farhan Abbasi (71), Nadeem Safdar (40no), Omar Khatab (38) and Deepal Dissanayake (37), but Congs then had no answer to Wasim Hussain, who took 6-46 as they capitulated for 113.

Glusburn have put the pressure on Denholme before their Second Division promotion battle at Park Field on Saturday.

With Denholme's home match against Bradley being the only one in the section to be abandoned, Glusburn moved to within three points of their rivals with a comprehensive victory at Airedale.

Steve Brown (4-19), Dominic Mortimer (3-17) and Mark Pickles (3-28) shared the wickets as Airedale were dismissed for 77, Glusburn replying with 78-0 as wicketkeeper Neil Freeman made 36 not out and James Tillotson 33 not out.

Denholme could well have taken a victory against Bradley after making 190-9, Adam Taylor scoring 49 and Joe Greenwood (32) as John Drake took 4-50.

Bradley were 61-2 after 26.4 overs in reply when the heavens opened.

The battle to get into the top flight is made all the more intriguing as both Glusburn and Denholme have yet to face leaders Oakworth Seconds, who cannot be promoted, with Glusburn hosting them on September 5, while Denholme travel to Wide Lane the following Saturday – the last weekend of the season.

Denholme also have to entertain Cowling, who are currently fourth three points behind Glusburn, on September 5.
