CAPTAIN Neil Copping (Bingley Congs) and opening bat Gareth Marshall (Oakworth) were the stars as the Mewies Craven & District side defeated a Nidderdale XI at the Nidderdale Show on Monday.

In a game that was reduced to 20 overs per side after an early lunch, the hosts collapsed from 102-2 after 12 overs to 117 all out at the end of the 19th over, Copping taking 5-2 from his three overs.

James Keane (Spofforth) made 38 of the first 57 runs and was backed up by skipper Tom Fryer (Pateley Bridge), who was 39 not out when the Show XI reached their high point.

However, Copping's introduction led to them losing eight wickets for 15 runs.

The reply was more sedate, Barrowford's Jonny Ormerod being dismissed for seven in the sixth over when the score was 26.

Denholme's Toby Priestley took it on to 63 with an elegant 18 from seven balls, including four fours, Marshall going on to make 67 off just 34 balls, including four sixes and nine fours, as the visitors won by seven wickets in the 13th over.

Ingrow St John's' Imran Zaman (18no) and Congs' Tom Mackenzie (2no) then saw the Craven League side home.
