THE Worth Valley End-of-Season Handicap Doubles at Keighley BC saw popular Highfield pair Len and Janet Buxton triumph.

They played well all day and beat the Whins Wood duo of Colin Barnes and Stefan Kit 21-16 in a close final.

Semi-finalists were home pair George Hutson and Nigel Hall and Cross Hills' Lisa Heaton and Stuart McDonald.

The Valley League Cup finals are scheduled for Broughton Road on Saturday, starting at 11am with divisional games between Lund B and Glen B in the Chairman’s Cup, Silsden Playing Fields v Steeton A in the Supplementary Cup and Cross Roads v Denholme A in the Valley Cup. All veterans finals complete the season on Monday.

The Skipton Floodlit League is in full swing, with many close games ensuring close positions in all four sections. Early leaders are Cononley and Colne Cricket, Keighley, Colne Legion B and Lund Park B.

Cononley clinched the Bradford League Division Three title in their first season through their great home form, which was highlighted by a 30-0 result over Peel A with one game to go. They should make their presence felt in Division Two next year.

The Yorkshire Handicap Finals for the Cockcroft Trophy are at Thornhill on Sunday from 1pm and the last 16 features two Cross Hills players in David Scott and Andrew Tate, who both qualified after recent preliminaries at Whinfield. Scott narrowly defeated Peter Hepworth while Tate had a comfortable win over Dave Smith.

Three county finals have also been completed recently, with three locals contributing in all games.

Yorkshire ABA regained the British Junior Championship comfortably, defeating Wales with Faye Ellis shining in her first county match in Cowling Bay. Her Craven team-mate Viv Abell also won her first county game for the Yorkshire Ladies in the final against Lancashire on a neutral venue in Derbyshire but the team went down by five points in a slight shock.

Yorkshire Parks have regained the County Championship, narrowly defeating a strong East Midlands team over two legs with Peter Clarke, of Devon, gaining a narrow but vital win in the away leg.
