BROOMHILL eased into the next round of the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League Division Two Cup with an emphatic 5-1 win over bottom club Grassington Reserves.

They were awarded a penalty in the first minute when man of the match Patrick King was felled in the box but striker Andy Tanner's penalty was excellently saved.

Tanner made amends when he side-footed into the bottom corner from a tight angle 12 yards out to open the scoring.

The Badgers went 2-0 up when a long pass up to Tanner by Matthew Wilson was misjudged by the Grassington defence. Tanner closed in on the keeper, who once again made an outstanding save but parried the ball straight into Luke Thornton's path to tap into an open net.

The visitors halved the deficit courtesy of an own goal a minute before half-time but, after Grassington's keeper made one-on-one saves from Tanner and Thornton, Broomhill went further in front on the hour-mark.

Ricky Smith's header from Matthew Wilson's superb corner hit the keeper before Smith pounced on the loose ball to poke home.

Young substitute Michael Turner opened his account for the first team with a header within seconds of coming on before the fifth goal came when Wilson's in-swinging corner was handled and he converted from the spot.

Elsewhere, rock-bottom Earby Town are still searching for their first points after a 2-0 defeat against Trawden Celtic which has enable their opponents to replace Grassington United at the top of the Premier Division.

Cononley Sports, the team immediately above Earby, went down 2-1 to Silsden Whitestar. Andy King and Sam Stanfield were on target for the winners with Stephen Pearson replying.

Gargrave, currently third from bottom, made an early exit from the League Cup as they went down 3-1 to Grindleton.

The battle between the top two in Division One saw leaders Pendle Renegades thrash second-placed Skipton Town with Matthew Bowker scoring twice.

FC Sporting Keighley proved too good for Ingrow & Worth Valley as they recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Embsay, who have yet to collect a point, were pipped 3-2 by Chatburn. David Greenwood and Elliott Stockton were the Embsay scorers.

Carleton striker Robert Bradley netted four times as his side defeated Pendle Renegades Reserves in Division Two. They remain one point behind leaders Manningham All Star who edged out Skipton Town Reserves 2-1.

Goals from Jason Shaw and Andrew Starkey earned Cononley Reserves a 2-1 win over Settle United Reserves.
