Steeton Reserves 4 Wibsey 2

PROCEEDINGS couldn't have started any worse for the hosts when a long-distance shot crept past Harry Jarman in the home goal.

Two minutes later the same striker saw a looping header crash against the crossbar but, after 11 minutes, the lead was doubled when a left-wing cross struck Damien Whiteoak as he was rushing back to help out defenders and the ball rebounded into the net.

In an attempt to keep the ball out, Sutcliffe collided with Jarman and an upright and was replaced by Greg Hudson.

Ross Chapman almost pulled a goal back but his precise header from Harry McGowan's cross brought the first of many good saves from the visiting goalkeeper.

On the half-hour mark the rejuvenated Jamie Longley halved the deficit when he slotted home from close range from Whiteoak's corner. Shortly before the interval a rasping shot from Andy Howland struck the underside of the bar and fell at the feet of Longley, who put his shot over the top when it looked easier to score.

Jarman kept Steeton in it with some good saves before the equaliser came after an hour. Following some slick passing in midfield the ball was threaded through to Andy Briggs, who calmly slotted past the advancing keeper.

Steeton took the lead after 70 minutes when a long punt upfield resulted in Longley and a defender tussling for possession. The Steeton man came out on top, steadied himself and slid the ball home from just inside the box.

Wibsey went all out for an equaliser but Howland unleashed a superb curling shot into the far corner of the net to clinch victory for Steeton.

Steeton Res: Jarman, Morgan, Sutcliffe (Hudson), Mawson, Fox, Whiteoak, McGowan, Chapman, Briggs (Douthwaite), Longley.
