Steeton 1 Horbury Town 2

Steeton went out of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup at the hands of Wakefield-based West Yorkshire League Premier Division outfit Horbury Town.

The second-round game was played on the artificial surface at the University Academy Keighley as both sides' pitches were waterlogged.

Josh Brooksbank returned in goal for Steeton and Declan Consoli took the left back spot to replace Joe Park, who suffered a serious injury last time out.

Rain throughout made conditions difficult, the first half ending scoreless, though Steeton went close when a superb cross by Andy King was just missed by leading scorer Lee Reilly. The visitors also threatened when a cross-shot from the left wing was parried at full stretch by Brooksbank directly into the path of an oncoming striker, who placed his effort wide.

Steeton took the lead on the hour-mark when a snap shot by Reilly squirmed through the soaked gloves of the visiting keeper.

Horbury stepped up the pace and the Chevrons had to be grateful to Michael Rhodes and Sam Rooke for last-ditch blocks and Brooksbank produced a smart save.

The pressure finally told after 80 minutes when a shot from the edge of the area crept in despite the best efforts of Brooksbank, who got a hand to the ball.

With extra-time looming, both teams sought a winner and it was Horbury who found the net with less than five minutes to go. A smart pass from midfield put one of their strikers through and he slid the ball past the advancing Brooksbank to put his side into the next round.

Steeton: Brooksbank, Rhodes, Consoli (Abbas), Pearson, Rooke, Hird, Holden, Cox (Richmond), Reilly, Holmes, King.
