DENHOLME'S Rebekah Tiler was edged into second place in the Exertrain English Weightlifting Championships last weekend in Manchester.

The 17-year-old, competing in the women's 69kg category, lifted 91kg in the snatch and 119kg in the clean and jerk at Wythenshawe Forum but her efforts were matched by Emily Godfrey (Europa), leaving both on a 210kg total after a personal best for the latter in the clean and jerk.

However, as Godfrey weighs 66.4kg compared to Rebekah's 67.3kg, the former took the title with a Sinclair score (a means of comparing weights lifted by those of different body weights) of 269.766 to the Calderdale College student's 267.525.

Rebekah put on her Facebook page: "It was a great competition to get me started for the year ahead and a big congratulations to Emily Godley lifting a new PB 119kg to equal me and win the 69kg title on lighter bodyweight. We both snatched 91kg and 119kg clean and jerk.

"It was a great-looking stage and brand new platform and, with all the banners, it looked really great.

"Thanks to everyone who shouted for me and Emily, and everyone who lifted, thanks to UK Sport and Sport England, and Herbalife for supporting me, with my family, and Ian (Hewitt), my butcher.

"My coach Ed (Halstead) is now doing my next programme for the European Seniors (in Forde, Norway on April 8-16), and the English is a good start."
