ON another weekend when the weather was so wet that it led to games in the Football League being postponed, the non-league clubs were hit hard.

FC Halifax Town thought they were going to be the only one of the area’s clubs on the football pyramid to play a home game.

However, their FA Trophy third-round tie against Chester FC at The Shay was called off by the match official an hour before kick-off.

The clubs will make a second attempt to play the tie tomorrow (Tuesday).

Six of the other local clubs were thwarted by waterlogged pitches, and a seventh were prevented from travelling for an away game.

Bradford Park Avenue’s Vanarama National League North clash against Corby Town was the highest-profile league game to fall foul locally.

The pitch at the Horsfall Stadium passed an early-morning inspection but with the heavy rain constant and no break forecast, the local referee returned to the ground and made the inevitable call.

Avenue, like so many other clubs, are facing fixture chaos in the latter stages of the season as the backlog of league games is worsening and the weather shows no signs of improving.

Brighouse Town should have hosted Bamber Bridge in Evo-Stik Division One North, while Albion Sports and Liversedge were due to be at home against Handsworth Parramore and Pontefract Collieries respectively in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

In the lower tier of the NCE League, Eccleshill United’s home game against Hemsworth MW and Silsden’s against Alsager Town in the North West Counties League Premier Division were called off early.

Thackley should have travelled to Cleethorpes Town in the NCE Premier.

New dates will be announced for all the games soon.
