TOM Moses enjoyed a confidence-boosting win ahead of the forthcoming Tour de Yorkshire.

Just a day after his place was confirmed in the JLT Condor team for the county's showcase race, the Oakworth rider claimed victory in the first stage of the Tour of the Reservoir.

The event in Hexham, Northumberland was the third round of the Motorpoint Spring Cup.

The weather on Saturday was reminiscent of last year’s race, with snow and hail falling throughout.

Moses won a sprint finish to triumph ahead of Jonathan McEvoy (NFTO).

Erick Rowsell (Madison Genesis) came first on the second stage, with Joe Fry (Pedal Heaven RT) securing overall victory thanks to a late attack to overhaul Moses.

The former Oakbank student will nevertheless be buoyed by his performance ahead of the Tour de Yorkshire, which starts in Beverley on Friday, April 29.

He is one of ten riders from the white rose county competing, including JLT Condor team-mates Russ Downing (Rotherham) and Graham Briggs (Doncaster).

Sir Bradley Wiggins will again compete in the race with his Team Wiggins outfit, while Otley's world champion Lizzie Armistead will star in the ladies' event.
