HAWORTH Hawks Table Tennis Club member Emily Mellor is representing her county on the national stage for the second successive weekend.

Having just helped Bradford Grammar School finish second in the Under-13s English Schools Table Tennis Association Team Championships, the 13-year-old is now looking forward to the ESTTA Individual finals at Aldersley Edge on Saturday.

Emily, who beat Haworth Hawks club-mate and school team-mate Aliza Khaliq in the West Yorkshire under-13 final to lift the title for the second year in a row, will be competing for glory along with winners from 52 other counties.

In the group stages, Emily faces Isabella Khan (Avon), England number one Jasmine Wong (Humberside), Anna Maria Besarabova (Gloucestershire) and Ellie Barnard (Norfolk) with the top two qualifying for the knockout stages.

Haworth Hawks head coach Andy Bray said: "Emily has been a member of our club for six years. "She joined when she was seven and moved with the club from Haworth Community Centre to their current facilities at Keighley Table Tennis Centre on South Street.

"Qualifying to play in the school nationals is fully deserved for Emily and everyone at the club wishes her well.

"As well as competing at a high level, Emily also takes part in all club activities and will be taking on the big challenge of playing for 24 hours at the club's fundraiser towards the end of April."

Keighley has further representation at the schools individual finals on Saturday. Also competing at Aldersley Edge is Oakbank School's Ffion Myers in the under-19 age group.

It is the second time the Oakbank Table Tennis Club member has reached the finals, having also made the quarter-finals of the English national championships in singles and doubles last year.
