Yorkshire Men's League Division Two: Keighley Albion 42 Scarborough Pirates 10

KEIGHLEY got their campaign off to a flier against a side who have dropped down two divisions and are expected to be front-runners.

Albion's hard work in training paid off as Alex Young opened the scoring after just three minutes.

Pirates were a big outfit but the home pack, led by captain Chris Price, stood up to the challenge and dominated.

Prop Mark Smith ran in for a great try on 13 minutes, Connor Meegan adding the extras, before silly penalties saw Albion concede a converted try out wide on the 30-minute mark.

This woke Keighley up as half-backs Meegan and Colin Pickles moved the ball around well for full back Kris Gott to go over for his first try, Meegan tagging on extras.

Straight from the kick-off, Ben Benfield went in at the corner as Albion led 22-6 at the break.

Great footwork from Gott saw him claim his second try before Young also bagged his double.

From the kick-off, new signing Danny Cook took his eye off the ball and allowed it to bounce in front of him, which led to an easy try for Scarborough.

Cook made up for his mistake with some pounding tackles as Albion closed the game out.

Two converted tries from Meegan and Josh Ireland finished the game off for Keighley.

This was a great performance all round from the hosts, with Cook and opposition man of the match Kieron Blakeley impressing.

* Keighley Albion raised £3,000 in completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which they split between the club and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. They presented a representative of Manorlands with a cheque for £1,500 before their opening match.
