WYNN Cup holders Bingley Congs were in fine pomp as they began their defence with an emphatic 129-run win at 10-man Glusburn.

Two new recruits bagged centuries, with Tony Leighton hitting 115 and Danny Pearson 101, which saw the visitors reach 324-7.

The Park Field side, which included four second-teamers, made a decent fist of their reply. Led by Matthew Lloyd (81) and Ian Simons (37), they totalled 195-9 as Adie Dibb took 4-37.

Thornton capitulated at home to Denholme. They were hustled out for 56, with Kev Pollard making 32 as Matt Wear took 3-19 before the visitors galloped home by seven wickets.

Embsay gained revenge for the previous day’s defeat at home to Foulridge by shooting them out for 57, with Scott Robinson taking 3-6 and Josh Robinson 3-11. The Shires Laners lost four wickets in reaching their target.

Wilsden saw off 10-man Haworth by 135 runs at Windy Grove. Chris Mitchell (54) and Sam Mitchell (33) helped the home side to 191 as Rob Andrew took 4-33 and Darren Ellerton 3-32. The Bronte outfit, that included only two first-teamers, were shot out for 56, with Rafaquat Mehmood taking 6-5 off 6.5 overs.

There was a terrific finish at Cononley where Barrowford won by just seven runs. Peter Cowburn (46) and Majid Iqbal (38) helped the Bull Holme side to 197-9 as Scott Brook and Harry Parker took three wickets each. The South Craveners reached 190-8, with Richard Mansell scoring 49 and Mark Paynter 47.

Haworth Road were humbled at home by Sutton, who won by three wickets. The Baildon Bottom side managed a modest 133-9, with Shami Ali making 25 as Richard Walker took 3-41. In the successful reply Chris Williams made 32, Walker 31no and Sam Solley 29 as Rob Greenwood claimed 5-28.

Ingrow saw off Hepworth & Idle at Hainworth by 37 runs. The hosts made 211-8 in their overs, with Owen Palmer scoring 73 and Jake Hoyle 51 as Matthew Buchan took 3-50. The Westfield Laners replied with 174 with Chris Hawksworth making 49 and John McDermott 32 as Dan Scott took 4-41 and Aaron Pearce 4-32.

Three teams couldn’t raise a side – Chatburn, Long Lee and Cowling – which means Sandy Lane, Crossflatts and Oakworth progress to round two.
