COUGARS Reserves coach Scott Lindsey praised his battling youngsters after they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a vastly-experienced Wolves outfit at Victoria Park.

Wolves featured Super League players Ryan Bailey, Gene Ormsby and Ben Evans and Lindsey said: “I’m immensely proud of my boys. To come to a place like Warrington with only 16 players against a Wolves team full of Super League experience and play the way we did, you can’t knock their efforts.”

The result was never in doubt as Wolves raced into a 28-0 lead in the opening quarter, with Ormsby breaking the deadlock after just four minutes with a try.

Warrington won a penalty from the restart and broke down field, with Toby King finishing the move by racing in under the posts before Danny Rasool crossed just minutes later.

Ormsby and King clinched their braces and things didn't get any easier when six-time Super League winner Bailey was the introduced off the bench.

His reputation was shown no respect, however, as he was on the receiving end of big hits from Christopher Cullimore, Carl McGuigan and John-Paul Morrow.

Wolves ran in a further four tries before the break, with Corey Lee and Daniel Murray scoring either side of a quick-fire double from David Thompson.

Cougars began to play with more freedom in the second half but the hosts added another three tries, Lee completing his brace before Reece Brunt powered over and Bailey marked his first game since last August with a four-pointer.

McGuigan was sin-binned after his side was put on a team warning but this didn’t deter the youngsters as they impressed with ball in hand.

There was still time for two more Warrington tries, with Lee and Toby King completing their hat-tricks.
