HOLDERS Oakworth Seconds are out of the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Cowling Cup after losing a thriller by four runs at Denholme.

The hosts posted 143-3, with Michael Dennison making 76 and Joe Greenwood 37 and, despite 53 from Drew Duffy and 48 by James Lee, the Cure Hill side could only finish on 139-6 as Jack Harrison took 3-22 off his allotted four overs.

However, the visitors are in good company as Embsay, last year's runners-up, went down by 64 runs at Haworth Road, who made the day's highest score of 195-3 in what is a Twenty20 format until the final.

Foulridge II were the next highest scorers with 182-3 at home to Sutton II, who replied with 114-7, while two of the league’s evergreens performed well for Glusburn as they beat Chatburn by five wickets at Park Field.

Bryan Hollis (3-23) and Rummy Smith (3-29) helped the Ribble Valley side back to the hut for 92, Richard Parkin then scoring 31 as Matt Lancaster took 2-7 in his four overs.

Tony Teale made 71 not out as Bingley Congs Seconds chased down Hepworth & Idle's 131-5 to win by three wickets with a ball to spare, while Cononley posted 132-6 at Sandylands, with Jake Parker making 32 and Peter Hatton 26 not out.

Skipton CI managed 121-6 in reply, with Sean Williamson hitting 40 as Mark Pickles took 3-9.

Sandy Lane II saw off Barrowford II by 38 runs at Greenwood Park, while Ingrow held off Bradley by 27 runs at Hainworth.

Early indications are that the Twenty20 format is a concept that will be enjoyed by some and hated by others.

Sadly, four teams – Riddlesden, Crossflatts, Gargrave and Bingley Congs Thirds – conceded their ties.

Hopefully, this situation will be remedied before next season.
