SILSDEN manager James Gill has added to his backroom staff as the boss begins plotting a swift return to the top tier of the North West Counties League.

Gill took over from the previous incumbent of the hot seat earlier this year, and he installed Danny Forrest as his assistant.

The former Bradford City youngster, who played at the top level of non-league with Halifax Town and Guiseley, also registered as a player when he got his match fitness back.

The pair were asked by the club’s committee to stay in charge and ignite a recovery following the relegation. Gill has now appointed Kevin Whitaker, a man he has known for many years, as first-team coach.

When Gill first set out as a player in the game Whitaker was a team-mate and later became a close friend.

Whitaker impressed Gill with his style of play and the Cobbydalers’ boss is looking forward to working with him on the coaching side when the squad return on June 21 for pre-season training.

The club’s awards have also been handed out, with Kyle Harrison winning the prestigious vote from his team-mates by picking up the players’ player of the year.

Josh Kane was the managers’ choice, while Joe Mitchell was voted for by the teams that came up against the Cobbydalers in being named best opponent. Chris Wademan was top scorer after finding the net 18 times over the season.

Forrest weighed in with eight as did Nicky McNally, while Joe Mitchell scored seven.
