OXENHOPE did the double over Stones in Halifax League Division One thanks mainly to the blossoming talent of 16-year-old slow bowler/batsman Tom Mawer.

Mawer made the early breakthrough with the ball, breaking a steady opening partnership by the visitors with Kenworthy making 35. It was, however, Liam Dyson with 7 for 49 who was the outstanding bowler as Stones were all out in the last over for 202, Ackroyd top-scoring with 47. Mawer added to his three wickets with a mature performance at the top of the order, carrying his bat for 91 not out. The innings had stalled slightly when Joe Ousey joined Mawer and blasted a quickfire 48 not out to complete the five-wicket victory.

There was drama in Division Two, where front-runners Cullingworth defeated Bradshaw by one run.

Adie Powis (72) and Steve Welch (69), who both hit 12 fours and a six, were the dominant figures in Cullingworth's 210-3, adding 157 for the second wicket, and Phil Poole (3-53) and Dave Robinson (2-59) both did just enough with the ball in 16 overs each to hold Bradshaw to 209-8.

Denholme Clough are second, four points, behind after skittling out Upper Hopton for 78 in a seven-wicket victory.

Oxenhope II finally got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory at Queensbury, with Duncan Tetley and Jack Barker putting in match-winning performances.

The Queensbury innings was a repeat of the previous week with openers Jack Richardson (60) and Jason Slator (51) putting on a century stand with just 15 overs gone.

However, Duncan Tetley used all his experience on a good track to take 7 for 35, helped by three outstanding overhead catches on the boundary by Nicky Holbrook as the home side were dismissed for 180.

That total looked a lot more challenging as the visitors were reduced to 51 for 3. Jack Barker then took matters in to his own hands and blasted his way to 109 not out, including ten sixes. The last 50 runs for victory were all scored by Barker in just 17 balls as Oxenhope got home by six wickets.
