WORTH Valley have propelled themselves to the top of the Federation Over-60s Veterans League following victories at Elland C&BC.

They began by sharing the winners with a strong Barnsley/Wath team but won 6-4 overall with good wins by Rod Bastow and Derek Seed, which clinched the aggregate points.

They followed this up with a convincing 9-1 victory over Leeds, a side that beat them earlier in the season. Chasing teams have games in hand but will have to score heavily to narrow the gap. Next games are on July 22.

The Worth Valley’s Leading Lady event has been cancelled due to lack of entries but at least the Skipton Summer Doubles preliminaries go ahead tonight (6.30pm) at Sutton and Cross Hills. The final is on Sunday, July 3.

Skipton Veterans continue their Inter-District matches tomorrow when they meet a vastly-improving West Riding team. The home leg at Craven starts at 1.30pm, while the away team travel to Thornhill C&BC.

Worth Valley/Skipton Juniors visit Huddersfield C in the Yorkshire ABA’s Junior League on Saturday (7pm).

Cononley A, Lund Park A and Grassington currently top the divisions in the Skipton Association. In the Worth Valley Saturday League, leaders are Whinfield A, Cullingworth A and Bingley A while in the Veterans section, leaders in the five leagues are Gargrave A, Colne Legion B, Colne Cricket, Lund Park B and Bingley C.

Hebden Bridge League leaders are Mytholmroyd A, Oxenhope B and Saville B, while favourites Sutton lead the Aire-Wharfe League Division Two.

The Yorkshire Parks team play Birkenhead on Sunday, with Andrew Tate in the home squad while Peter Clark and Robbie Ellis travel away to Tixall.

At the same time, the veterans team play North Staffordshire, with locals Barry Turnbull, Mick Bastow and David Hemsley in the home team and Mick Skwarek travelling away.
