TOP performances from Sam Mitchell and Uwais Mehmood helped Wilsden under-17s win the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association's William Spencer Memorial Cup.

They overcame Oxenhope in the final by eight wickets at Denholme to win the trophy for the second time, having beaten the same club in 2013.

Put into bat, Oxenhope openers Joel Fothergill and Alex Baker were soon parted as Baker was winkled out by former team-mate Akash Gopal via wicket-keeper Jacob Jagger.

A blow to the batting side was the dismissal of county hopeful and Oxenhope skipper Tom Mawer, who was bowled for just five. Fothergill was joined by senior club-mate Hamzah Khan and the scoreboard again began to move.

Mitchell separated the pair with a smart caught and bowled to send Khan back for 30 before the resilient Fothergill was finally undone by leg-spinner Uwais Mehmood for a solid 32. Oxenhope eeked out their full quota of overs to reach 93-9 as Mehmood finished with 4-10, Gopal 3-25 and Mitchell 2-16.

After Wilsden lost an early wicket in reply, Mitchell joined Junaid Jamshed and together they all but won the match. Jamshed included seven fours in his 32 before falling to spinner Tom Mawer but man of the match Mitchell went on to complete a fine 52 not out in what has been a fine season for him.

His innings included six fours and three sixes as Wilsden cruised over the winning line in 14.2 overs.

Wilsden: Sam Mitchell, Ismail Nazir, Bilal Hamid, Jacob Jagger, Junaid Jamshed, Moin Ahsan, James Bloodworth, Akash Gopal, Harrison Houldsworth, Uwais Mehmood, Hassan Sheikh.

Oxenhope: Tom Mawer, Joe Bairstow, Alex Baker, Joel Fothergill, Will Hopper, Hamza Khan, Siv Bhotoa, Adam Horrocks, Nathan Storton, Spencer Hurd, Harvey Wynn, Ciaran Bartlett.

* Oakworth claimed their third trophy of the season with a clear win over Settle Stags in the John Hindle Memorial Under-13 Cup final.

Stags posted 89-9, thanks to No 9 Freddie Spencer, who added 25 after opener Ryan Maudesley had resisted the Oakworth attack for 21.

Settle were well contained by the leg-spin twins Bilal and Uwais Khan with 3-19 and 2-18.

They had followed an opening pacy burst from Amrit Sharma (2-15) and Oakworth skipper Bradley Powell (2-16).

With the bat Oakworth’s man of the match Bilal Khan and Amrit Sharma both retired, striking nine boundaries between them. At 57-1 after 15 overs, Oakworth's progress slowed down until left-hander Ellis Marshall got off the mark with a six and added 13no to see his side over the line with four wickets down in 19.1 overs. For the Stags, Will Tyrer returned 2-25 with a wicket each for the frugal Anthony Cark and Archie Peel.

It was Oakworth's second success in the Hindle Cup, following their first victory back in 2008.
