RELEGATION-threatened Steeton fell short in a tightly-contested Aire-Wharfe League Division One contest at home to Burley.

The high-flying visitors were put into bat and amassed 291 from their 50 overs.

Jason Wright hit six sixes and six fours on his way to an aggressive 86, while Sam Owen (43), Nick Brook (39) and Ed Brown (46) also chipped in for Burley.

Captain Stephen Pearson and James Emmott were the pick of the Steeton bowlers, with Pearson taking 3-76 from 12 overs and Emmott 2-54 from 15.

The hosts produced a battling reply but fell short on 236-8. John Akrigg (95) got his side off to a good start, hitting ten fours and one six before falling to the bowling of Brown (2-52). The rest of Steeton's batting line-up struggled with only Pearson (35) and Adam Hardwick (22) managing to make scores worthy of note.

Harden's struggles continued as they were put to the sword by visitors Ben Rhydding.

Rhydding posted 207 in their 50 overs, with Lewis Bolton (26), Redmond Bolton (34), Kervon Christmas (30) and James Frost (34 no) all weighing in as Tom Cummins (3-51) battled away with the ball.

Harden were rushed out for 113 in 30 overs, with only Cummins (31) providing resistance to cope with Michael Slater (7-29) as they crashed to a 94-run loss.

There were no surprises in Division Three as table toppers Hall Park beat struggling Silsden by seven wickets.

The hosts were bowled out for just 88 from 36.5 overs, Mark McEneaney taking 6-45 from his 15 overs. The visitors knocked off the runs in 29.1 overs, Steve Phillips top scoring with 37.

Second teams

Steeton made a competitive 187-7 at Guiseley as Chris Luxton (42), David Robinson (41) and Gary Boulton (31no) made contributions, Joshua Findlay taking 3-50.

Steeton's spin bowlers were to the fore when Guiseley replied as Zaggy Pearson (3-56) and Andrew Luxton (3-50) shone but the hosts edged home by one wicket as the Summerhill Laners were left to rue missed chances.

Robin Hopwood (6-48) stood out for Harden as hosts New Rover were bowled out for 190 but the visitors were never in the race as they slumped to 130 all out, only Martin Falkingham (62) recording a significant score.

Silsden made a tremendous fight of it at Hall Park but were all out with five balls to go and two runs short of victory.

Chasing the hosts' total of 201-6, in which Will Pullan took 3-46, Silsden were agonisingly dismissed for 200 after good knocks from Matt Shuttleworth (38) and Andrew Pullan (61).
