AN IMPRESSIVE all-round performance from Matthew Haines was not enough to prevent Keighley from suffering the narrowest of defeats against Baildon in Championship A of the Bradford Premier League.

Haines took 5-45 as the Lawkholme Lane side came close to defending their total of 146 all out but the Jenny Laners edged home by one wicket.

Their success was set up by left-arm spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, who took 6-27. Ben Hastie was the top scorer for the hosts with 35, while Haines also weighed in with the bat as he made 27.

Baildon reached their victory target with 3.4 overs to spare, Andy Wear putting the skids on them with 2-17 from 15 overs.

Baildon II's Brad Hichliffe produced a match-winning spell of 7-33 as his side bowled out Keighley II for 108 on their way for a six-wicket triumph.

Stuart Rogers (45) and Martin Walker (38) made the bulk of the Keighley runs before hosts Baildon eased to victory in 30.1 overs, Ashley Robinson taking 3-24 for Keighley.

This Saturday, Keighley first team head to Yeadon, while the seconds entertain Cleckheaton.
