STEETON beat fellow strugglers Collingham by eight runs to raise hopes they can claw their way out of the Aire-Wharfe League Division One relegation dogfight.

Despite a five-wicket haul from Toby Jacklin, Steeton scrambled their way to 173 with Craig Walton making 59 from 59 balls. Freddie Pearson also made an unbeaten 40 to halt a mini-collapse in the middle order.

Paul Hardwick (3-44), Stephen Pearson (4-42) and Josh Gill (3-35) then managed to deny the visitors victory, though a last-wicket stand took the visitors from 117-9 to 165 before they were dismissed.

The win lifted Steeton off the bottom above Kirkstall. With three games to go, they trail third-bottom Collingham by 28 points.

Harden moved a step closer to relegation from Division Two as they lost at home to leaders Colton by five wickets.

The visitors won the toss and restricted their hosts to 149 all out in 50 overs, Andy Bailey making an unbeaten 25 as Tom Glover (3-39) and David Wright (3-21) were to the fore. Colton knocked off the runs by the 32nd over, Danny Wilbor making 63.

In Division Three, neither the rain nor a stand of 62 between Shaun Brentnall (32) and Majid Inayat (25) could rescue Silsden, who were dismissed for 91 at Olicanian. The hosts eased home with seven wickets in hand.
