Keighley Albion u-14s 28 Hunslet Parkside u-14s 18
Keighley ensured a fourth-placed finish to their Yorkshire Junior League Division Two season when they signed off in style with a first-ever league victory over Hunslet Parkside.
Harley Robertshaw’s exemplary finishing in scoring four tries – a remarkable feat at this level of rugby – made sure Albion always held the edge against strong opponents.
Robertshaw twice pounced on Joel Livock’s kicks for the corner to give his side the perfect start and, despite a score for the visitors, there was no stopping Albion at this stage.
Edward Croft created a try for himself with an inventive run, before Morgan Mirzaali’s strong burst led to Zak Blackburn getting over to make it 20-6 at half-time.
Robertshaw then finished off a cross-field passing movement to extend the lead, but two quick tries for Hunslet closed the gap to just six points with ten minutes left.
Finally, after a few anxious moments, Robertshaw made the game safe with another confident touchdown.
Albion thus finish in their highest-ever position in three seasons of competitive rugby, with 11 wins from 18 games, and final match awards went to Mirzaali, Robertshaw and Matty Smith.
