A BUMPER perch caught on lobtail helped Keighley's Steve Newns win the Burton-on-Trent Angling Festival.
His 4lb 8oz catch on the opening day of the the three-day event was on the pole part of a 11lb 2oz section-winning prize.
On day two, he finished third in his section off municipal length, claiming 9lb 10oz of roach.
The river had risen six inches over night for the final day, in which Newns, despite a tough draw, fished a good match on maggot feeder for 8lb 10oz of hybrids and roach. That saw him claim second in his section and net overall victory in a competition which featured 78 anglers from across the country.
His success earned him £750 first prize out of a total £930 winnings.
