LIVERSEDGE and Silsden are both out of the FA Vase after suffering defeats in the second qualifying round at the weekend.

The Cobbydalers had a home tie but they exited the competition after losing 4-3 in extra time.

They were up against Hall Road Rangers, who play their football in a different league but are on the same step of the pyramid.

The visitors took a slender lead into the interval after Chris Spinks had broken the deadlock and, although Tom Coulson levelled the tie early in the second half, parity lasted less than a minute before Spinks netted again.

Silsden’s Chris Wademan scored with a little over six minutes of the 90 remaining to take it into extra time.

But the Hull-based visitors were soon in front again when Danny Norton curled in a superb effort.

Assistant manager Danny Forrest hit the Cobbydalers’ third equaliser with another quality finish, but just two minutes later Scott Phillips bagged Hall Road’s winner.

Sedge were beaten 3-0 at Newcastle Benfield but the Northern League outfit had to work for their win.

The home side led 1-0 at the break thanks to Dylan McEvoy, and had a touch of fortune as they doubled their advantage when Mark Turnbull’s ball into the area took a huge deflection.

Newcastle put the gloss on their win in stoppage time when Meech Kanda scored their third.

Brighouse Town reclaimed the leadership of Evo-Stik Division One North with a 2-1 victory at Droylsden.

Town took an early lead through Luke Parkin but the Bloods were level at the break after Sam Hewitt’s own goal midway through the half.

Parkin netted his second just after the hour, which was enough for Paul Quinn’s men to go back top as Bamber Bridge, who have played two games more, were held to a draw at Hyde United.

Farsley Celtic retained third place after strolling to a 5-0 win at Burscough.

The Celts were ahead early after Ryan Schofield turned the ball past his own keeper, and Richard Marshall scored on the stroke of half-time.

James Walshaw weighed in with a brace in the second half before recent signing Jacob Hazel wrapped up the scoring.

Albion Sports missed out on an opportunity to go above Sedge, who were sidelined by their Vase tie, in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men had beaten Garforth Town away the previous weekend but the Miners got their revenge with a 4-2 victory at Throstle Nest.

Early goals from Mitch Hamilton and skipper James Beaston put the home side in charge.

Danny Facey pulled one back before the break but Mark Simpson and Vince Dhesi were on target before Albion’s Aran Basi was sent off for a verbal abuse. The ten men struck again via Facey.

Fourth-placed Thackley looked like closing the gap on their local rivals but they were held to a draw at mid-table Maltby Main.

The Dennyboys led 3-1 at half-time after skipper Pat McGuire had twice scored directly from corners, and Dan Broadbent added a third but the home side came back after the break to score twice in an eight-minute spell before the hour.

Eccleshill United and Campion banked a point apiece in Division One as the honours were even in the first league derby between the clubs.

Andy Cooper gave the Eagles a great start when he netted an eighth-minute direct free-kick but the visitors hit back through Eli Hey before the break.

The home side thought they had done enough to win the game after Marcus Edwards and substitute Jarad Peltier scored within minutes of each other.

However, Campion were by no means done, and substitute Mark Bett claimed a double inside the last two minutes to make it 3-3.
