WINNING a title isn't all about the number of goals that you score – just ask Silsden Whitestar.

They have won seven out of seven in the Skipton Body Repair Centre Craven League Premier Division but their success has been built around a solid defence rather than a cavalier attack.

Their 2-0 victory at Skipton LMS, secured with a Sam Stanfield brace (making it nine for him for the season), was their fourth clean sheet and they have only conceded a miserly three goals – singles to Sporting Keighley, LMS and, most surprisingly, cellar dwellers Earby Town.

Sporting Keighley went down to a 2-1 defeat at Settle United, whose winner came in the last minute from one of their numerous corners.

Mohammed Ammer had earlier showed composure to equalise from a lovely Shazad Khan through ball, and the latter also hit a post in the second half.

Cross Hills were in a relegation place but climbed out of it thanks to a creditable 2-2 draw at second-placed Rolls, who are leading scorers with 27 goals to Whitestar's 21.

Having missed out by a point last season, Cowling are again pushing to get out of Division One.

Luke Barker (2) and sub Tom Palmer were on target for the third-placed club in their 3-1 home victory over Oxenhope Rec, whose reply was a James Lee penalty.

Visitors Bingley Juniors notched their first win by the same scoreline, defeating Chatburn.

Three of the top five lost in Division Two but Pendle Renegades Reserves weren't one of them, winning 3-2 at Cross Hills Reserves, while there was no joy either for mid-table Cononley Sports, who were trounced 7-1 by visitors and leaders Hellifield Sports.

If it was goals that you are after, however, look no further than Sutton in Division Three.

They won 13-2 at Earby Town Reserves and have already scored more goals (37 from seven games) than they managed in the whole of the 2014-15 campaign (18 from 20 matches) and will definitely beat the 39 they scored in 2013-14 and the 45 in 2012-13.

Man of the match Aiden Robertson led the rout of the second string with six, Jack Shaw (2), Cameron Hodge, James Macdonald, Mickey Ruddock and subs Kane Booker and Chris Vollentine making up the tally for the leaders.

James Kendall's double helped fourth-placed Silsden Whitestar Reserves to a 3-2 victory over visitors Cowling Reserves, Lee Britain getting the other, with replies coming from Matt Lister and Sam Woolley.

Sean Bland and Cameron Galindo netted the consolations for Broomhill Reserves, who were beaten 5-2 at Settle United Thirds, while Bingley Juniors Reserves made it a good weekend for the club with a 4-3 home triumph over Barlick Wanderers.
