West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Wyke Reserves 1 Oxenhope Reserves 3

OXENHOPE won their fourth win on the bounce to move into sixth place in the top flight but they left it late to secure the points.

The away side started the stronger with both Craig Morris and Jason McGee going close but as half-time approached Wyke grabbed the lead when their midfielder was allowed space and time to strike a low drive from 25 yards into the bottom right corner.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead early in the second half but for a smart save by keeper Eddie Jackson. Oxenhope kept up their relentless pressure but were repelled by a determined Wyke defence and their in-form keeper.

Just as it looked like the home side were going to cling on to an unlikely three points, Sean Quinlan broke down the left, cut in and drove the ball in at the near post, despite defenders' best efforts to clear their lines.

Minutes later Oxenhope took the lead, Quinlan delivering the perfect corner for Luke Scott to rise and send a powerful header into the back of the net.

In the dying minutes all three points were made safe when Morris laid the ball back into the path of the on-rushing Liam Fothergill to volley the ball past the keeper.

This Saturday Oxenhope entertain Horbury Town Reserves at the Recreation Ground (2.30pm).
