West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Carlton Reserves 3 Oxenhope Reserves 2

Oxenhope's nine-game unbeaten run came to an end when they were defeated with virtually the last kick of the game.

With only a couple of points separating the two teams, this was a vital match and the game lived up to its billing.

The Wakefield side got the first breakthrough on 20 minutes with a swift passing move that caught the visitors’ defence square.

The second half continued in the same end-to-end nature, with Oxenhope drawing level after ten minutes.

A home clearance found Keann Shaw, who brought the ball down and smashed in a swerving volley from distance.

The visitors should have gained the lead soon after when Jason McGee went past his marker and rounded the keeper but the referee deemed he was offside.

Rec also went close when Joel Gallagher turned his marker and hit the bar with a powerful shot. Their pressure finally paid off when Eddie Pawson played a through-ball to Sam Murphy on the edge of the box.

He held off his marker and flicked the ball round the keeper. Gallagher was first to react and made sure by driving the ball over the line.

Carlton pulled level on 80 minutes when they took advantage of Oxenhope not clearing their lines. Neither side were settling for a point and, as the final whistle approached, it was the hosts who grabbed the winner.

Oxenhope keeper Eddie Jackson somehow got a strong hand to keep a goalbound strike out but the home side's winger

was first to react, rifling the ball home to snatch victory.

On Saturday the reserves travel to Bradford FC in the third round of the West Riding County FA Trophy (2pm).
