REBEKAH Tiler is hoping to make the final three of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year for the first time after being nominated for a fourth successive year.

The Denholme weightlifter is on the short list of ten which will be reduced to three next week, with the announcement being made on CBBC show Blue Peter on Thursday, December 8 (5pm).

The 17-year-old won three bronzes at the European Weightlifting Championships in April (overall bronze, as well as individual medals in the snatch – with a best of 99kg and 123kg in the clean and jerk), boosting her hopes of Olympic selection.

Tiler went on to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as Team GB's only female weightlifter, finishing in tenth place.

Also nominated are last year's winner Ellie Downie (gymnastics), Amy Tinkler (gymnastics), Sophie Ecclestone (cricket), Keelan Giles (rugby union), Tom Hamer (swimming), Ellie Robinson (swimming), Lauren Rowles (rowing), Georgia Stanway (football) and Jess Stretton (archery).

Previous winners of the BBC award include Ellie Simmonds, Wayne Rooney, Amber Hill, Tom Daley and Andy Murray.

The prize will be awarded at Sports Personality of the Year ceremony at Birmingham's Genting Arena on Sunday, December 18.
