OAKWORTH'S Sam Moses (Oldfield Paul Milnes Cycles ER) has followed a family tradition by winning the junior men's race at the North of England Cyclo-Cross Championships.

The 16-year-old Beckfoot Oakbank pupil's victory in the event at York means he has followed elder brothers Tom, Joe and Alfie in winning the title.

Sam, who is in his first year as a junior man, defeated clubmate Euan Cameron from Bradford to take the crown, while former Stocksbridge resident Chris Young (Pedalsport Cycling Club) was second in the men's 50-plus category.

Bingley's Rob Jebb won the men's 40-49 years' race ahead of Haworth's Andy Peace (Jedi Cycle Sport), who was seventh, and Cononley's Ian Taylor (C and N Cycles RT), who was 17th.

In the National Trophy Series, the consistent Sam is second after four rounds on 91 points, just three behind Dougal Toms (Iceni Velo), with only the Shrewsbury round to go on Sunday.

Jebb and Taylor are second and third in the men 40 to 49 years' category, while Young is sixth in the men's 50-plus section.

* Ian Taylor is on top of the world after a masterful performance in Belgium on Saturday.

The 45-year-old Cononley rider struck gold in the World Masters Cyclo-Cross Championships which were staged at Mol.

Riding for C&N Cycles, Taylor powered to victory in the 45-49 men’s age group in a time of 42min 48sec.

He finished 18 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger, experienced American rider Mark Savery, with Dutchman Edwin Helmond a further four seconds back in third place.
