DISABLED athletes raised £600 in four days through donations from customers of Morrisons supermarket in Keighley.
The athletes from Keighley and across Bradford district were collecting money to fund their participation in this year’s Special Olympics National Games.
More than 20 people from Keighley will be among the 50,000-strong Bradford squad competing at Sheffield in August.
The athletes, who all have learning disabilities, need to raise £8,600 for costs such as kit, training, travel and accommodation.
The collection, during the week before Christmas, was organised by Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL) which is overseeing the Special Olympic squad.
Spokesman Barry Thorne said: “People were definitely in a Christmas spirit. There’s not much cash around and a lot of people don’t use cash anymore, but they were very generous."
The district squad will be competing in sports such as football, horse riding, tenpin bowling, track and field, cycling and Crown green bowling.
