OXENHOPE'S Helen Glover claimed the first local female prize in the Soreen Stanbury Splash fell race.

In what were boggy conditions due to melting snow, the four-time winner set a fast early pace but had to settle for being second woman back.

The Keighley & Craven Athletics Club runner was caught by new Lancashire cross-country champion Louisa Powell-Smith, who finished 16th overall after clocking a time of 52min 40sec in the seven-mile race near Haworth, which featured 1,200 feet of climb.

Glover finished in 28th with a time of 54:42, while Haworth doctor Jo Buckley was first female veteran in 58:14.

Wharfedale Harriers' Christian Holmes won the first local prize in the men's race, coming seventh in 50:07 to also claim the veteran 40 award.

Keighley's Ian Holmes was first veteran 50 in fourth spot. The Bingley Harrier's time of 47:56 was only three seconds outside the ten-year old course record by Steve Oldfield, despite the wet and windy conditions.

Prolific Ilkley Harrier Tom Adams claimed his fifth overall title with a winning time of 43:52, finishing an impressive three minutes ahead of Pudsey & Bramley runner-up Joe Baxter.

A total of 330 runners took part in the senior race, while the Soreen Junior Quarry races proved as popular as ever.

Keighley & Craven's Alex Sadler-Townsend and Wharfedale's Bethan Buckley won the under-nine runs.

In the main combined races Luke Carrington (East Cheshire) and Martha Jackson (Craven Energy) won the under-11s, Eric Beaumont (Keighley & Craven) and Tui Brooks (Wharfedale) the under-13s, and Alex Thompson (Wharfedale) and Holly Davey (Otley) the under-15s.

In the two-lap race, Reuben Mantle (Bingley Harriers) and Emily Jones (Wharfedale) won the under-17s, while James Askew (Bingley Harriers) and Eliza Findlay (Bingley Harriers) triumphed in the under-19s.
