West Riding County Ladies League Division Two: Silsden Development 2 Ossett Town Reserves 1

SILSDEN earned victory on a muddy pitch thanks to goals from Kylie Armstrong and Bob Gaines.

Vicky Williamson and Freya Olson dominated midfield but found it hard to stay upright on the slippery surface.

Town had their moments but Silsden's solid back line of Gaines, Lauren Murgatroyd, match-point winner Kourtnai Broughton and Dee Rutherford kept them at bay. Strikers Natasha Mulligan and Ellie-Jayne Bathers had chances but were denied by excellent keeping.

Both teams found it hard to string passes together but had the edge, with wingers Leah Gilmore and Lauren Adams threatening.

Town held out until the last kick of the half when a counter-attack down the left saw winger Rebecca Leach launch the ball into the box and Armstrong cleverly poked home.

Ossett went on the attack after the break but were denied by some excellent saves by keeper Rebecca Seward.

Silsden stepped up a gear and came close to increasing their lead but Town broke away and grabbed an equaliser against the run of play.

The hosts were furious with themselves for conceding such an easy goal and were determined to regain the lead, launching attack after attack.

Town found it hard to clear their lines and one shot resulted in a hand-ball in the box. Gaines' penalty was tipped onto the bar but she blasted home the rebound to restore Silsden's lead.

Town fought hard to gain another equaliser but excellent defending and goalkeeping kept Silsden in front.
