MORE than 40 people attended the Tour de Yorkshire roadshow as it stopped off in Keighley.

Organisers said there was a positive response from people who lived in various parts of Keighley on the planned route for this year’s race.

Residents and business people from Riddlesden, Silsden and Haworth were among those who quizzed Welcome to Yorkshire representatives about various aspects of race day.

Nick Howes, Welcome to Yorkshire’s head of sports media, gave a presentation about the route, timings and accompanying activities.

The roadshow was one of the last during several weeks of similar events ‘ along the route of the three-day competition.

Mr Howes said he was able to give a more informative presentation in Keighley than at most of the previous roadshows, because detailed timings had been announced just three days previously.

He said: “Now it’s all public, so instead of telling people a ‘within an hour’ window we can tell people to within a few minutes.

“There was a good turnout in Keighley – a mix of residents and business owners, and people from schools and youth clubs.

“On the whole it was positive – people just wanted to know when it will go past their front door. A couple running a tea room want to know exactly when it was going past so they can organise things.

“We also had some cycling fans who wanted to know about the Tour de Yorkshire as a whole.”

Volunteers who run a youth and community centre in Silsden spoke at the roadshow about their plans for youngsters create land art for race day.

Representatives from the Brontë Parsonage Museum spoke about a tie-event they are planning, which will involve a poet on a bike.

Mr Howes said people at the roadshow were also interested in the educational pack, available at yorkshire.com, which can be downloaded by teachers.
