EVENT directors are needed to ensure a weekly Junior Parkrun can begin at Lund Park in Keighley.

Lund Park Community Group, who are working with Parkrun UK to develop the children’s event, are desperately looking for two people to take on the task.

Spokesman Jo Horrox said: “Their role is to make sure there are enough volunteers each week for a Parkrun so it’s really just a matter of emailing and maybe a phone call.

“We have a good number of reliable volunteers in place from the community and the college, and we know that once we get going we will attract more, but we can’t start unit we have event directors in place.

“They wouldn’t have to be at the run – they could do this from the comfort of their home.”

Parkrun is a flourishing international movement that involves hundreds of runs for all ages at the same time every Saturday at 9am. Many Junior Parkruns are held around the UK on Sundays at 9am.

The Lund Park runs will be held every Sunday morning for children aged between four and 14.

A trial Parkrun was held at Lund Park on December last year, with youngsters timed as they ran 2km, which was twice round the park.

Jo added: “Junior Parkruns are open to all, free and are safe and easy to take part in.

“Children are under no pressure to go every week – they can drop in and out of Junior Parkrun, so it can easily be fitted around busy family lives.

“There are currently 123 Junior Parkrun events in the UK. More than 80,000 children have taken part and between them they have run more than 650,000 miles, which is literally further than the distance to the moon and back!”
