TONG swimmer James Barwick, who does his conditioning work at NRGym in Keighley under the direction of Bryn Roberts, stepped up his preparations for the World Masters Championships in Budapest this summer by winning a handful of medals in a national event.
Barwick, who trains with Ilkley Swimming Club and East Leeds Masters, competed in five events at the Welsh National Masters Championships and finished on the podium in each one.
He won gold in the 50 metres butterfly, silver in both the 50m and 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke in the competition for swimmers aged 25 and over.
"The gold medal swim was also a lifetime best, beating my previous best set in 1999 in Coventry," said Barwick.
