Hallmark Security League Division One: Silsden 1 Stockport Town 2

SILSDEN have confirmed that Will Storrie suffered a broken leg in last night's defeat to Stockport.

The Cobbydalers forward was on the end of a heavy challenge and was sustituted before Town scored a late winner.

In another injury blow for Danny Forrest's men, Kyle Hancock is also likely to be out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn hamstring.

It capped a disappointing night for Silsden after two outstanding performances against promotion-chasing Charnock Richard and Whitchurch Alport, which had yielded four points.

There was a sense of deja vu as Town had also clinched all three points in the dying minutes of the reverse fixture in late January with only ten men.

Silsden dominated the opening half, Nicky McNally seeing his early volley saved. Hancock fired over before Dan Illingworth rattled the visitors’ bar with a powerful header.

Storrie shot wide and was then denied by a great block from Daryll Grant. Josh Eastwood went close but the Cobbydalers' final pass let them down.

Illingworth headed wide from a corner and then saw another header cleared off the line.

Finally the opener came for the Cobbydalers on 34 minutes when McNally slotted home after the ball fell to him following a block tackle. Hancock was injured in the build-up and replaced by Mark Trueman.

The goal was no less than Silsden deserved but it woke the visitors up as an attacking force, only a superb tackle by Matty Moses denying the Lions an equaliser.

The heavens opened and defending became even more tricky in the second half. Josh Kaine’s superb block denied the visitors after some slick passing while, at the other end, Storrie saw his effort cleared off the line by Adam Stubbs.

The game changed with the introduction of big Ben Halfacre. Although the surface favoured shorter players, the substitute netted the equaliser after Lee Constantine had broken through on the left.

He almost netted a second moments later as Silsden's dominance dissipated. Home keeper Callum Jakovlevs saved Jude Obyio’s thunderbolt before Trueman rattled the bar at the other end from a free-kick.

Danny Vincent cleared off the line for Silsden, while Stubbs did the same from Danny Bunch at the other end.

It looked like the contest would end in a draw but two minutes from time Moses allowed Halfacre to turn in the box and fire home his second.

Silsden pushed for the equaliser but Chris Wademan scuffed his shot wide after a goalmouth scramble.

Defeat was harsh on Silsden in what was a highly entertaining game. Coach Matty McNeill was disappointed after recent performances and highlighted the poor decision-making at times.

On Saturday, Silsden travel to leaders Litherland REMYCA before the long trip to Eccleshall next Wednesday.

SILSDEN: Jakovlevs, Moses, Vincent, Kaine, Illingworth, Hancock (Trueman 37), Storrie (Davis 75), Eastwood, McNally (Cox 71), Wademan, Bunch.
