Wharfedale Triangle League Premier Division: Crossflatts Village 6 Yeadon Veterans 0

Crossflatts Village hammered their bogey side Yeadon Veterans 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick from man-of-the-match Michael Garnett and a fantastic all-round team display.

Billy Bailey also chipped in with a couple of goals and Adam Rooney got the other.

Vets have proved to be Flatts' bogey side in recent season, including a 4-1 reverse in last year's League Cup final, but on this occasion Flatts put them to the sword with a tireless team performance that had manager Kevin Gill buzzing.

The away side came into the game at full strength and the home side had five first teamers unavailable but the players that Gill brought into his side did him proud.

He said: "It was good to get one over on them. We've owed them a good hiding and we didn't take any prisoners.  Every player played out of their skin and I can't praise them enough.

"Today we proved what a great squad we have and how good our team spirit is.  We started the game like I've never seen before.  Every man pressed for every first and second ball, and we seemed to win everything in the air.

"We played football in spells that no team would have been able to cope with.  We had 11 captains fighting for each other for the full 90 minutes and our goal-keeper Dom Bennett had very little to do because we just didn't let them play.

"Our back four were solid - bigger and stronger than their front men.  Myself and Craig Durn put the fear of god into their top scorer who didn't want to know.

"Our full-backs Ben Marczynski and Ryan Jeffery didn't put a foot wrong.  Our midfield quartet had pace in abundance with Billy Bailey and Colin Schofield on the wings and Matthew Bentham and Ronnie Cartwright in the middle pulling the strings, setting the tone with some fantastic passing.

"Our front two of Michael Garnett and Adam Rooney couldn't have been any more up for it.  Rooney played the best I've seen all season - knowing he has to fight for his place in the Keighley Cup final next month.

"He showed strength, determination and a lot of fight. Michael Garnett was unplayable and was undoubtedly the man-of-the-match.  He's back to his best."

The victory had kept Crossflatts' title hopes alive but they ended last Thursday when Sky Bet's 1-0 win over Shipley Town sealed the Championship.
