SKIPTON & Worth Valley under-18s are gearing up for the new season in Division Two of the Yorkshire ABA Junior League, which gets underway on April 29 when the team visit Heavy Woollen.

Organiser Adam Hook is looking for new players and his second junior social/pre-season training takes place at Lund Park on Saturday (6.30pm).

All under-18s are welcome, even if they have never played.

Saturday also sees the qualifying rounds for the Yorkshire Cup and Eric Hutchinson mixed team event. Not many local sides feature, which is a sign of the times, but it gives players a break from league action.

In the Yorkshire Cup, Cross Roads travel to Royds Park, Cleckheaton, to meet Kirkheaton Cons, who easily beat the Roaders last time, while Broughton Road play Chapel Street from Leeds at Cleckheaton Sports. There is also a local derby at Elland where Myrtle Park face Shipley Club.

The Hutchinson competition draw sees Oxenhope face Cowcliffe Liberals at Birkenshaw Park, Settle play Thornhill at Lindley BC, Cross Hills take on Skelmanthorpe Central at Rothwell BC and Broughton Road meet Lindley BC at Pudsey.

The losers go into Supplementary events for the Henry Taylor and Radley trophies respectively on May 13.

Sunday sees the finals of the Hebden Royd Sunday Morning KO events, with all games at Todmorden Park.

Some games are still to be completed in both the main tournament and the new Supplementary event, which has led to a little confusion, but still in the competition are two Cross Roads teams and Denholme as we went to press. Full reports next week.

The Hebden Bridge League gets the green light on Monday, where Cross Roads A will be hoping to regain the Division One title from Mytholmroyd A, while other teams will begin the battle for survival.
