FARSLEY Celtic could yet have a second celebration this term but it won’t be a classic league and cup double after results on the final day of the Evo-Stik League saw the Celts finish runners-up in Division One North.

The Celts won their last game of the regular season, thumping Kendal Town 5-0 away, but it was not enough as title rivals Lancaster City won 5-2 at Glossop North End.

Farsley were two points clear going into their last two league fixtures and were on a high after lifting the West Riding County Cup but will now have to regroup and lift themselves for a play off semi-final at home to Colne on Tuesday.

The Celts romped to victory at Kendal with first-half goals from Paul Walker, Lewis Nightingale and Richard Marshall.

Leading scorer James Walshaw, back from his third suspension of the season, had claimed assists in the first half but weighed in with the Celts’ fourth after the break, and Nightingale added his second to wrap up the scoring.

Brighouse Town just failed to break into the end-of-season extras as they lost 3-1 at Clitheroe in the last game of their campaign.

Mike Fish gave Paul Quinn’s men a seventh-minute lead but Dimitri Tuanzebe levelled midway through the first half.

The Blues’ Tuanzebe put the home side in front before they had Charlie Russell sent off with ten minutes remaining, but the ten men extended their lead with a late third from Alex Newby.

Campion ended their first season on the non-league ladder with a home defeat as visitors Hall Road Rangers won the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One title at the sportsbulk.co.uk Stadium.

James Bicknell’s men went a goal down early on but got back into the game when the visitors had Gareth Owens sent off midway through the first half.

Jason Davis netted the resulting penalty but Rangers’ Josh Batty added to his opener to claim a first-half brace in a 2-1 win.

Eccleshill United had to settle for a point from their last game as visitors Hallam consolidated their place in the play-offs.

Chris Leaver got the Eagles off to the best possible start with a first- minute opener but Hallam’s Danny Flynn hit an 86th-minute equaliser.

In the lower tier of the Hallmark Security League, a narrow away defeat saw Silsden drop out of the top ten.

The Cobbydalers lost 2-1 against seventh-placed Alsager Town.

Paul Taylor and Michael Lennon scored first-half goals for the hosts, while Nicky McNally struck a last-minute consolation for Silsden.

The result wasn’t enough for Alsager to force their way into the play-offs as they still trail the top six by seven points with just two games remaining.
