SANDY Lane won the most prestigious cup competition in the area open to Sunday clubs, beating Hope Inn Whites in a tense West Riding County FA Sunday Cup final.
Bradford Sunday Alliance outfit Lane fell behind when Hope Inn scored in the fourth minute, and the Sandy boys had to call on all their defensive resources to remain within a goal at the break.
That determination paid off in the second half when Lane battled back and equalised in the 80th minute.
A free-kick from 40 yards out finished up in the roof of the net when Matthew Cavanagh hit home, leaving keeper Mark Bower helpless.
There was no further scoring in the remaining ten minutes as the match went to penalties.
Stuart Cotterill, Kristian Hargreaves, Lee Smith and Danny Hook all scored from the spot as the shoot-out went to the wire.
Hope missed their last spot-kick before Cavanagh was on hand to slot home the winner to cap a terrific team performance and spark scenes of celebration.
